NAA presented its Arts Advocacy Award to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for the year 2009. "Nevada Arts Advocates is proud to present its prestigious awards to two distinguished honorees: Sen. Harry Reid and Regent Raymond Rawson," says Patrick Clary, president of Nevada Arts Advocates. "Sen. Reid fought to increase arts funding on the national and local levels and Regent Rawson was instrumental in advancing arts issues through the Nevada Legislative Arts Caucus. We strongly urge arts advocates to attend the gala and invite their legislators," adds Clary.

Earlier this year, Reid successfully fought to increase funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and ensured that the 2009 Economic Recovery Package included $50 million for the NEA. He also prevented museums and cultural organizations from being excluded from stimulus funding; directed federal appropriations to Nevada arts and cultural facilities, including more than $400,000 to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts for its K-12 Arts Education Program and hosted grant workshops to educate Nevadans about arts funding opportunities.

2008 Advocacy Award
Congratulations to Julie Gilday Shaffer - R&R Live.

R & R Live has donated their time and services including production manager, writers, and staff, securing talent and musicians to the annual fund raising benefit for the past eight (8) years.

R & R Live has given NAA backing as a member of the Volunteer Advisory Council. If R & R Live is not actively involved in a function for NAA the company purchases tickets to support an event.

Additionally the company through the Managing Partner, Julie Gilday Shaffer, has attended six Arts Days in Carson City. She has taken her two sons out of their schools for the day, flying to Carson City, to experience the legislative process. Her sons have interviewed and filmed legislators and shared their amateur video with their classmates. The video has been edited by R & R Live with musical enhancement.

By bringing the importance of the arts directly to their classroom NAA has benefited by adding another dimension to the process of increasing arts funding and the key role the legislature plays.
